This week at Move Beyond, we are exploring rib cage mobility and rotation. How does your ability to round and extend your spine, shift your rib cage side to side, or deeply exhale, affect your ability to rotate your torso? We are finding there is a very direct link.
The lateral rib cage shift can be a particularly interesting one. Many of us find it difficult to find that movement initially. Try this. Standing with your feet parallel, hips still, can you shift your ribcage (around your mid-chest area) to the left, or to the right, without taking your hips with you? Let me know what it feels like. Don't move into discomfort, but see how your body responds.
